After losing his parents to the world’s longest civil war in Sudan, Lorem Aminathia spent 8 years of his childhood in a refugee camp in Kenya. Raised by a group of older boys, he launched an astonishing journey to Yale College, culminating in his selection for the second cohort of Schwarzman Scholars at Tsinghua University in China.

Returning to the world’s newest independent country, South Sudan, Lorem recognized that his nation’s lack of an education system was not only an obstacle to progress, but also an exceptional development challenge in its own right.

Come to hear and meet Lorem if you have an interest in education and social entrepreneurship in regions torn by histories of conflict and insecurity. You will meet someone who calls his own education a miracle, and also knows that a million other school children in South Sudan cannot depend on miracles. Lorem will also describe his evolving model for Kinyeti Academy, whose launch will point the way to a different education future.

Jeff Brenzel ‘75, former Yale Dean of Undergraduate Admissions and former executive director of the Yale Alumni Association, will introduce Lorem and moderate a discussion with the audience.
